Senior Solicitor

    • Take the lead on the Commission’s legal function

    We’re seeking a proactive Senior Solicitor to provide high quality legal advice at this busy independent Crown Entity.

    The work is varied, interesting, and stimulating. The Senior Solicitor will lead the Commission’s legal function, providing quality advice at all levels - supporting significant Commission investigations, providing legal input operationally, and taking the lead on a number of organisational projects.  

    The Transport Accident Investigation Commission investigates significant aviation, rail and marine accidents and incidents with a view to avoiding  future similar occurrences. The Commission has set a visionary goal of “No Repeat Accidents – Ever!”

    Experience in the public sector, strong critical thinking ability, and attention to detail are musts, as well as the ability to work well with a wide range of people.

    With a wide-ranging workload, you will need to be proactive yet pragmatic, a strong relationship builder and an excellent communicator. With scope to take the lead on work within the wider corporate services sphere, we’re seeking someone who proactively takes ownership and can drive work to completion. 

    To be successful in this role, you will need to:
    • Have evidential analysis experience
    • Be an energetic self-starter
    • Be detail focused and a clear thinker
    • Be an excellent plain English writer and strong oral communicator
    • Have the ability to see things through beyond your advice
    • Be able to work independently
    • Have at least five years’ experience including public sector experience
    • Have a law degree and the ability to hold a practicing certificate
